Carrick Swan GAA Notes

Carrick Swan senior hurlers played second round of south championship on Sunday last in Davin Park where they lined out against local rivals Carrick Davins. In a game that did not reach the standards of last year’s meeting of the teams little separated them in the first half with Swan leading 1-07 to 0-09. On the restart Swan had their best spell building up a healthy 1-14 to 0-10 lead before two goals brought Davins back into the game to lead by a point going into injury time when Swan deservedly equalised after missing a number of earlier chances. Final score Swan 1-15 Davins 2-12. This was a game both teams will feel they should have won but a draw was probably a fair result at the finish. We will play next round of championship on Thursday of next week, May 12th, when we line out against Mullinahone in Monroe at 7.00 p.m. Meanwhile our senior footballers play Ardfinnan on Saturday evening next in Kilsheelan at 6.30 p.m.

Carrick Swan under 14 footballers played Kilsheelan on Monday last in third round championship game and recorded their third consecutive win coming from behind in second half of a very entertaining game.  This group of players were also in hurling action over the week-end playing final of Carrigeen Astroturf tournament against St.Marys. Both teams served up a thrilling encounter with St.Marys coming out on top in nail biting finish with some decisions from officials not helping our cause.  Our under 12 footballers played Killeanule on Friday night last on The Green and both teams served up an enjoyable game. Some of our youngest footballers were also in action over the week-end when we hosted blitz on The Green with St.Pats, Kilsheelan and Grangemockler joining our team in a very enjoyable morning’s activity. All those in action enjoyed refreshments in the juvenile centre after the games and we thank those who helped during the day particularly those who prepared the field and refreshments. Under 10 blitz will take place on The Green on Saturday morning next. Carrick Swan under 14 camogie team played out an exciting draw with visitors St.Marys on Thursday evening with some great skill from both teams. They are in action again on The Green on Thursday evening of this week.

Carrick Swan minor footballers have secured semi-final place after their win over Ardfinnan over the week-end running out winners 1-09 to 0-10 after surrendering a healthy first half lead and having to come from behind to secure a hard earned victory.

Juvenile disco will take place on Friday of this week from 8.00 – 10.30 p.m. We look forward to your support and remind helpers to put their names forward in advance and to attend at 7.45 on the night. This is a strictly supervised event and parents are welcome to view the facility and supervision on the night.

The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 5, 11, 16 & 23. We had no jackpot winner and six match three winners each received €40 – Lorraine Hennessy, Frankie Nolan, Dennis Keyes, Paddy Prout, Geraldine Shortiss and Kay/Tender. We thank all those who continue to support the weekly lotto. This week’s jackpot is €5,250 and we invite those who have not yet joined up to do so now by contacting any committee member.

Thanks to those who have helped with recent building / development work on Davin Park dressing rooms and on clubrooms on The Green. This work improves both facilities for our own players, visiting teams, schools and all others who use. Your financial support is helping us greatly in our efforts to provide the best for all our juvenile players and visitors.

Carrick Swan club extends its sympathy to the Dunleavy family on recent family bereavement and we also sympathise with Yvonne O’Shea, wife of club secretary Sean O’Shea, and their family on the death of Yvonne’s  father in England at the weekend.
