Carrick Swan GAA Notes
Carrick Swan senior footballers bowed out of this year’s county championship when they were defeated by reigning county champions Aherlow in Cahir on Saturday evening last. Swan matched their opponents throughout first half and trailed by just a point at half time. However Aherlow got on top in second half and ran out convincing winners in the end. We thank our panel of players and team mentors for their effort and commitment throughout the year. Our junior footballers were also in south championship action last week and enjoyed a good win.
Carrick Swan senior hurlers have been drawn to play Mullinahone in south semi-final on Sunday 17thJuly in Fethard at 7.00 p.m. Davins play Killenaule in the other semi-final on the same day in Monroe at 2.00 p.m. Both of these fixtures are repeats of last year’s semi-finals in which we overcame Mullinahone before going on to defeat Killenaule in final. Our team and mentors are preparing well at present and we compliment all concerned for their dedicated and disciplined approach. Our junior footballers play Clonmel Og on Wednesday evening of this week in Cloneen at 7.30 p.m. while our minor hurlers will play Ballingarry on Tuesday evening of next week (July 12th) in Mullinahone at 7.30 p.m.
The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 10, 13, 14 and 25. We had no jackpot winner and five match three winners each win €40. This week’s jackpot is €7,500 and we invite those who have not yet joined our weekly lotto to do so now by contacting any committee member to be in with a chance of winning or sharing our jackpot prize. Each lotto entry costs €2 and we thank you for your support.
Carrick Swan’s juvenile summer camp for boys and girls took place last weekend on The Green where over 140 children enjoyed coaching, fun and games in a most relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Tipperary hurling stars Eoin Kelly and Paraic Maher took time out from their busy training schedules to again be with us this year and we sincerely thank them for attending and for passing on some words of wisdom to some very attentive listeners. We also thank those who provided sponsorship of the event, all our mentors, players and parents who helped with coaching and other activities and our juvenile secretary Terry Lonergan for again organising this year’s event in such an efficient manner. We also thank Michael Dunne who again this year provided signage for clubrooms in advance of summer camp. During the camp we held ice cream party in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland and we thank those who contributed so generously to a very worthy cause.
Our under 14 hurlers commence championship action on Tuesday evening of this week when they travel to play St.Marys. Match report next week.
The annual sponsored walk to Faugheen takes place on Sunday July 31st and sponsorship cards are being distributed at present. We look forward to the participation of all our adult and juvenile players, members and supporters and we look forward to your support.
Carrick Swan club wishes the Tipperary senior hurlers and their management team the best of luck in next Sunday’s Munster final against our near neighbours Waterford. This pairing ensures great fun and banter in this part of both counties especially and bragging rights, for a short time at least, will lie south or north of the river on Sunday evening. We also congratulate the Tipperary minor footballers on their terrific win in Munster final on Sunday last.
Carrick Swan club extends its sympathy to the family of the late Paschal Reade, Mountain View and Carrick-Beg, who died during the week.
All club officers and team mentors are reminded that items for inclusion in club notes must reach club P.R.O. by Sunday of each week for inclusion in following week’s press.
