 Carrick Swan GAA Notes

Carrick Swan’s final senior hurling championship group game against Ballingarry will take place in Kilsheelan on Sunday week 26thJune at 6.00 p.m. This is a vital game for us with a win guaranteeing a semi-final place and it is encouraging to see the effort of team members and mentors alike now that we have placed ourselves in a position where we ourselves dictate our fate, not dependent on results from other games. Meanwhile our junior hurlers played Ballingarry in championship fixture on Sunday evening last in Monroe (again) where they ran out winners by a three point margin. They play Ballylooby in next round on Tuesday evening of next week.

Many of our under players were in action during the week with our under 6, 8 and 10 teams travelling to St.Marys Clonmel  on Saturday morning for some friendly games where all enjoyed the activities. We thank the St.Marys club for their hospitality and also those who helped out on the day. Our under 12’s also played challenge games during the week lining out against near neighbours Clonea and Piltown in useful workouts in preparation for their league which commences soon. We thank the host clubs for their hospitality. We thank all those who continue to put so much time and effort into the juvenile section of our club and we encourage all panel members to attend all organised training sessions in the weeks ahead. All in the club congratulate under-age player Mary B.Stuart who was part of the Tipperary under 14 girls football team who beat Roscommon in All-Ireland final over the weekend. Well done Mary.

Notices / entry forms for our annual summer camp have been distributed and should have been returned by now. The summer camp will take place on the week-end of 01stJuly and we encourage all under-age players from 5 to 13 years of age to take part. The Carrick Swan annual GAA summer camp is one of the best organised and attended camps held in the county each year. Organisers are ever mindful of the financial constraints placed upon families and this is especially true in these times. For that reason we keep the costs and entry fee as low as possible and we again look forward to our camp this year where Tipperary team captain Eoin Kelly will be in attendance. If you have not returned your entry form you must do so immediately to facilitate orders for leisurewear which must be placed now.

Carrick Swan club sends its best wishes to former player Jim Drohan who is recovering in Dublin hospital after major surgery last week. We hope to see Jim out and about again soon.

Juvenile disco will take place on Friday of this week (17th) from 8.00 – 10.30 p.m. and we invite all our regulars and their friends to join us for an enjoyable night’s entertainment in strictly supervised surroundings. We remind those supervising to be in attendance before 7.45 p.m. and it is most important that all those who have supervised to date be in juvenile centre at that time.

The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 1, 9, 10 & 16. We had no jackpot winner and four match three winners each win €50 – Patsy Ryan, 77 St.Mollerans, Cilla McGrath, Lissadell, Inna Kuzmako, 2 Ard Mhuire and Barbara O’Connor, 54 Treacy Park. This week’s jackpot is €6,750 and we invite those who have not yet joined up to do so now by contacting any committee member.

Carrick Swan club extends its sympathy to the families of John Brunnock, Macreary and Ashpark Village, Patrick Fogarty Poulmaleen and Bridge Street and Stephen Shanahan Mass Road who died during the week. We also extend our sympathy to the O’Hanlon family Carrick and Oliver family England on the death of Gertie Oliver (nee O’Hanlon) at the weekend.

Carrick Swan club wishes the Tipperary senior hurling team and their management the best of luck in next Sunday’s Munster semi-final against Clare.
