Carrick Swan GAA Notes

Juvenile meeting this week will finalise selection committees for the year ahead and confirm training schedules for all our under-age teams. Panel members will all be notified in advance and we welcome new players at all times. We encourage all team mentors, adult and juvenile, to again give of their time this year to try to build on what was a very successful year in 2010. Without the commitment of those who have been involved in the past, and new mentors who are always welcome, the task in hand is made more difficult.

With the new playing season just around the corner we hope all players will take it upon themselves to be in the best possible shape before formal training schedule begins. A little work now will help a lot later.

Membership subscriptions are now due and with large expenditure at start of playing year for team affiliations and injury scheme it is most important that subscriptions are paid early. The subscription fee of €20 for adults, minor €10 and juvenile €5 can be paid to membership officer Willie Hahessy or to any committee member. It is hoped that all members will have paid before the end of January and new members are welcome at all times.

The cards for our annual Grand National Sweep will be distributed to members and business premises this week and we look forward to your continued support of what is a most popular annual event.

The numbers drawn in our weekly juvenile lotto on Thursday 13thJanuary were 7, 10, 17 and 26. We had no jackpot winner and seven match 3 winners each receive €30. Thanks again to all those who support our lotto and we encourage those who have not yet joined to do so at any time by contacting any committee member. Supporters from outside town are also welcome. This week’s jackpot is €2,750 and in the first 8 weeks of our lotto prizes totalling €4,815 in value have been won. Weekly entry is €2.

Carrick Swan club extends its sympathy to the family of the late Tom Doyle, Marian Avenue who died suddenly during the week. Tom was an active playing member in our club in his youth before emigrating and club members formed guard of honour at his funeral on Thursday morning last. We also extend our sympathy to the family of Mary Galvin, Carrick Beg who died recently.
