2014 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship

Tipperary County Championship 2014

There are 32 teams in the Tipp Senior Hurling Championship in 2014.

It's split into Roinn I & Roinn II.

2014 sees the Senior Hurling Championship restructured with teams graded on their 2013 Championship performance.

As per the guidelines sent to clubs early in 2013, the new format is as follows:

Roinn I
Seed 1: 4 Co Semi Finalists 2013: Loughmore, Nenagh, Kildangan, Borris-Ileigh
Seed 2: 4 Co 1/4 Finalists 2013: Clonoulty, Eire Og Annacarthy, Killenaule, Drom/Inch
Seed 3: 4 Co Rd 4 Losers 2013: Toomevara, Carrick Swan, Silvermines, Roscrea
Seed 4: 4 Co Rd 3 Losers 2013: Templederry, Burgess, Moycarkey, Upperchurch

These 16 teams will be divided into 4 groups of 4 (A,B,C,D). 1 team from each seeding per group (This means we can't draw Toomevara, Silvermines or Roscrea). In other words there are going to be 4 pots for the draw.

To Progress
Two top teams in Groups,A,B,C,D (8 teams) qualify for the Co. SHC Prelim. Quarter Finals (Last 16/Dan Breen Cup)
The bottom teams from each group are assigned to Roinn II for the 2015 Championship.

In Summary
If we finish 1st or 2nd in our group, in Roinn I, we get to compete for the Dan Breen Cup in knockout hurling, if we finish 3rd (and don't win The South, our year is over) and if we finish 4th we are 'relegated/assigned' to Roinn II for 2015.

----------

Roinn I is what we need to worry about but I've tried to explain the rest of the Championship below-------------

Roinn II is made up of Ballina, Cashel, Boherlahan, Borrisokane, Cappawhite, Kickhams, Thurles Sars, Mullinahone, Holycross, Carrick Davins, JK Brackens, Kilruane, Portroe, Ballingarry, Moneygall and Lorrha. They will be seeded, as follows:

Roinn II
Seed 1: 4 Rd 2 Losers 2013: 1 2 3 4
Seed 2: 4 Rd 2 Losers 2013: 5 6 7 8
Made up of these 8 (Cappawhite, Holycross, Mullinahone, Knockavilla, Ballingarry, Portroe, Kilruane, JK Brackens)

Seed 3: 4 Rd 1 Losers 2013: 9 10 11 12
Seed 4: 3 Rd 1 Losers 2013 + Intermediate Champions 2013 13 14 15 16
Made up of these 8 (Ballina - Intermediate Winners + Thurles Sarsfields, Carrick Davins, Boherlahan, Lorrha, Cashel, Borrisokane, Moneygall)

For what I can gather there will be 2 pots of 8 teams for Roinn II.

To Progress
Top team in each Group, in Roinn II, (4 teams) qualify for the Co. SHC Prelim Quarter Finals (Last 16/Dan Breen Cup) and are assigned/promoted to Roinn I for 2015.

Basically if you finish top in your group, you go to compete for Dan Breen, if you finish 2nd/3rd you are finished for the year (unless you win your division) and if you finish 4th you go into relegation.

Divisions & Divisional Championship 2014

The South Senior Hurling Championship will run, as follows:

RD 1 Fixtures:

Carrick Swan vs Carrick Davins

Killenaule vs Ballingarry

Mullinahone get a BYE

Format

Winners of Carrick Swan vs Carrick Davins advance to Semi Final.

Winners of Killenaule vs Ballingarry advance to Semi Final.

One of the losers of Swan & Davins and Killenaule & Ballingarry play Mullinahone. Winner of that game advances to Semi Final.

Loser of the Mullinahone vs other 1st round loser play, with the winner advancing to Semi Finals.
Semi Finals are open draw.

How Does This Fit Into The Co Championship?

The 4 Divisional Champions play in SHC Preliminary Quarter Finals(Last 16/Dan Breen Cup) - (4 Teams)

If a team wins its Divisional Championship, and finishes in the first or second place in Roinn I or in first place in Roinn II, then the next highest ranked team, not already qualified, will advance to the Preliminary Quarter finals. However a team in the Roinn II relegation place / relegation play-off place cannot qualify for the Preliminary Quarter Finals via this route e.g. if a South team finished bottom of their group in the County Championship Roinn II matches and went on to win the South, they could not progress to the Preliminary Quarter Finals.

County Championship: 16 Teams Play as below --- Open Draw

Round 1:
Preliminary Quarter Finals --- 16 teams (Last 16)
4 Top Teams in Roinn I vs 4 Top Teams in Roinn II
4 Divisional Champions vs 4 Runners Up in Roinn I

Round 2: County Quarter Finals – 8 teams (Open Draw)
8 winning teams from Premlimnary 1/4 Finals/ Last 16 matches --- Open Draw

Round 3: County Semi Finals— 4 teams (Open Draw)
4 winning teams from 1/4 Finals--- Open Draw

Round 4: County Final
2 winning teams from Semi Finals to play in Final - Usually Mid October

Relegation: Two out of 4th/last placed teams in each group, in Roinn II will be relegated. (2 down, 1 up [Intermediate Champions 2014])
